School Closing Procedures
If weather conditions or forecasts indicate inclement weather, or the schools or school suffers a significant maintenance issue, please tune to area radio and television stations for school closing announcements. Radio stations contacted are: 580 WIBW-AM, 104.9-FM, 94.5 Country-FM, 106.9 KTPK-FM, 1220 KOFO-AM, 105.9 KISS-FM, 1320 KLWN-AM, 92.9-FM. TV stations contacted are: WIBW-13, KMBC-9, KCTV-5, KSNT-27, KCWE-29, KTKA-49 and KTMJ-43. Instead of waiting for the scrolling districts at the bottom of the TV screen you can go to any of the TV or radio station’s websites for an immediate notice. The school district also posts school closings on our website and Facebook. Phone calls, texts and emails are sent out announcing the closure through the Apptegy Notification System. If no school closing announcement is made by 6 AM, it is likely school is in session.
Our district tries to avoid unexpected early dismissals but sometimes early dismissals are unavoidable. Parents should make prior arrangements for supervision of their children. It is important that the schools have the most current phone numbers and emergency contact information on file as well as accurate daytime telephone numbers and emergency contact information.
Important note about Apptegy: In unusual circumstances when a storm significantly affects a large area of the country, the Apptegy may experience some delays in processing calls. Please be aware that Apptegy is just one of the ways to be notified. Remember to utilize the other official sources listed above if you are unsure about a school closure.
