Why Parents as Teachers

Parents-As-Teachers has shown that participating children:

1. Were significantly more advanced in language development than other 3-year-olds.

2. Had made greater strides in problem solving and other intellectual skills.

4. Demonstrated competencies that are predictive of and essential to later school achievement.

Parents-As-Teachers helps parents give their children the best possible start in life, laying the foundation for later school success. It is a flexible program for all parents and has been found to be highly effective.

What are the Parents-As-Teachers services?

The Parents-As-Teachers program is voluntary and free. It provides practical, effective help for all families with children from birth to age 3.

1. Personal visits by certified parent educators trained in child development.

2. Group meetings with other parents to gain new insights, share experiences, and discuss topics of interest.

3. Information and guidance before your baby is born to help you prepare for the important job of being a parent.

4. Information on what to look for and expect as your child grows and develops.

5. Periodic checkups of your child’s educational and sensory (vision and hearing) development.

6. Toy Lending Library filled with educational appropriate toys that are available to check out.

7. Monthly newsletter filled with ideas and information.

8. Support System

As a parent, you are your child’s most influental teacher. Give your child the best possible start in life.
