Ruth Barkley along with her husband own and operate a Construction and Development Company and a Rental management Company. Ruth has been a resident of rural Baldwin for 20 years. Some of her hobbies and interests include her family, three grandchildren, gardening, cooking, music, boating reading and going to the theatre.

She said the reason she became a board member was because “serving on the school board is a way for me to give back to my community in an area of vital importance-our kids are our most valuable asset.”

Alison Bauer has been a resident of Baldwin City for 12 years and is the current President of the Board of Education.  Along with her husband, Steve, they own a real estate inspection business. They have 3 children, a son that graduated Baldwin High School in 2005, two daughters, a senior and a sophomore attending BHS. Some of Alison’s favorite pastimes include reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

“I felt serving on the school board would be an important way to serve my community, especially our young people. My board service has been demanding and challenging. It has also been rewarding. I feel an obligation to the citizens who elected me and I hope they know they can always contact me with their concerns, comments and compliments!”

Bill Busby has been a resident of rural Baldwin City in the Vinland area for 19 years. Bill has been an Associate Scientist at the Kansas Biological Survey, University of Kansas for 20 years. He has two children, one is a college sophomore graduate of BHS and one currently a senior at BHS. Other things Bill enjoys are prairie restoration, hiking, bird-watching and soccer.

Bill shares the reason he became a board member was “to give something back to the educational system that taught my children.”

Blaine Cone has been employed by Lawrence Journal World, World West LLC and Postal LLC for 15 years. She has lived in rural Baldwin for 17 years. She and her husband have 2 children which graduated Baldwin High School in 2005 and 2007. Blaine relaxes with reading and enjoys cooking.

When asked why she became a board member she replied “In high school I did campaigning for school funding, I was in Washington since that time. Both of my parents were in education and this is my way of giving back to the school system and ensuring that all children get the best education possible.”

Scott Lauridsen grew up in Baldwin City and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1979. He is currently employed as the Region Executuve Director of Sun Microsystems. Scott favorite pastimes is golfing, hunting and flying as a private pilot. Scott and his wife, Laura have three children, all graduates of Baldwin High School.

When asked why he became a board member his response was “I wasn’t happy with the direction I saw the leadership taking the district and wanted to validate my views and lead change as required. I also knew there were going to be difficult decisions to be made related to the funding levels for education provided by the State and I waned to be a part of those decisions.”

Joshua Mihesuah is in his second year of a four year term as a board member. He has lived in Baldwin City for three years. His hobbies are hunting and fishing as well as playing basketball and spending time with the family. Joshua is currently employed by Haskell College as interim Vice President for Indigenous Affairs.

Joshua served as a board member on the Flagstaff School Board as board president. He says “The reason I am on the board is because of my concern for the future of our children. I have been on many boards and have contributed numerous hours to the community which have been very rewarding.”

Ande Parks has been self employed for over 16 years as a Freelance Illustrator and Writer. He has served as a USD 348 board member for 5 years. He enjoys golf, woodworking, reading and playing with his kids. Ande has been a resident of Baldwin City for 12 years. He and his wife, Cynthia Appl have 2 children, one in kindergarten and one in fourth grade.

When asked why he became a board member he said “I believe in contributing to the community you have chosen as your home. I am passionate about education, so i thought the board was the right place for my contribution.”
