Strategic Goals

  1. Improve Facilities -
    1. Prioritization
      1. Determine what is needed most.
        1. Examine recent facility studies
        2. Survey affected audiences.
        3. Determine areas of concern.
        4. Determine effects of Intermodal.
        5. Consider safe routes to school grant.
    2. Update Comprehensive Plan – Short & Long Range
    3. Improve Technology
      1. Develop short and long range plan.
        1. Must include Integration plan.
        2. Improve instruction by meeting the needs of students with differing background, interest and abilities.
  2. Improve Leadership -
    1. Board
      1. Board Effectiveness
        1. Negotiations – Board negotiations team should attend KASB training on negotiations and pursue professional development through readings, meetings and outreach.
        2. Board Members should attend 1 to 2 seminars a year, and pursue professional development through readings, meetings, and outreach.
        3. New Board Members should attend KASB New Board Member training and should receive in-service from Superintendent.
      2. Better goal setting
        1. November and December Board goals will be reviewed and evaluated.
      3. Evaluation
        1. Re-evaluate the evaluation tool for Superintendent and Administrators
        2. Annual Feb 15th Evaluations for Administrators other than Administrators in their 1-2 years.
      4. Organizational Structure Accountability
        1. Develop Flow chart of Administration accountability.
      5. Support for Instructional Leaders
        1. Board will provide support to Administration in their duty of being strong Instructional Leaders.
  3. Improve Instruction -
    1. Course Offerings
      1. Expand course offerings beyond core subjects to produce well rounded education based on research and analysis.
        1. Examine similar-sized schools.
        2. Survey students on course offering interests.
        3. Examine staffing issues to meet needs.
    2. Efficiency of testing
      1. Can amount of testing be reduced?
      2. Emphasize pupil teacher contact time.
    3. Instruction for all.
  4. Improve Activities -
    1. Evaluations of activities
      1. Develop effective instrument for evaluating programs.
      2. Seasonal reports to Board regarding activities.
    2. Evaluations of Coaches and Sponsors
      1. Revise evaluation instrument for coaches and sponsors.
    3. Develop statement of purpose of USD 348 activities and evaluate their value.
    4. Develop District Activity Handbook.
  5. Improve Communication and Advocacy -
    1. Better flow to public.
      1. Continue to upgrade Website.
      2. Improve Newsletter and deliver to those that want it in the way they want it.
      3. Continue to improve relations with the Media.
      4. Make more contacts with local organizations.
      5. Contact local legislators about district issues and needs.
    2. Bi-directional
      1. Continue updates from administrators and respond and ask questions.
