BHS Math students rank high

Myeong Jeong
On Oct. 9 and Nov. 3, nine Baldwin High School junior and senior students attended math competitions at Emporia State University and Washburn University.
At Emporia State, the Geometry team competed and placed second out of 44 teams. The team consisted of Shaleia Beerbower, Myeong Joeng and Allison Howard. Joeng also competed in the Geometry Individual Test and finished third place out of approximately 120 participants. Cayla Tate, Jalinn Sommer and Colby Soden placed top 15 out of 44 teams in the Math Scramble.
“We were the only public 4A school that got medals at this event,” Math teacher Mike Curran said.
The math team won the class 4A division at Washburn for the second year in a row. The other 4A schools there were Atchison, Topeka-Hayden, Holton and Silver Lake. Jeong placed second in the non-senior competition also.
“It was really interesting, I learned a lot,” junior Allison Howard said.
